Growing Caledon online presence

My Caledon Online is an initiative committed to growing the online presence of the town of Caledon and its communities through Social Media.

Caledon has long been regarded as the capital of the Overberg with its origin owing to developments around it natural hot water springs, agriculture and strategic geographical location. How-ever, developments, in comparison with other neighbouring towns over the past ten years, does appear relatively pedestrian straining a workforce in anticipation of brighter income and leisure prospects – but the winds of change does blow, orbiet ever so gently. The recent introduction of the Victoria Mall has drawn bigger brands such as Pick ‘n Pay, Wimpy and Clicks, among others, to Caledon. This addition compliments the scenic entrance to the town opposite the Caledon Wild Flower Garden adjacent to the N2. It must be said that the exodus of businesses to the Victoria Mall has indeed left a void in the CBD leaving many premises vacant and the prospects of occupation there-off an uncertainty – in the near future is should say.

The Caledon, Casino, Hotel & Spa has for over ten years now played a critical role in the local economy in providing employment to a significant number of staff with-in the immediate and surrounding Communities  and contractor of services from local business. It contributes greatly towards the marketability of the town and is the custodian of the hot water springs. The current operator, Tsogo Sun is also a regular sponsor of local events and often award scholarships to young achieving learners towards the academic aspirations.

Agriculture has maintained its prevalence and relevance with-in Caledon and the town continues to service the greater Overberg agricultural sector. Wheat, Canola, Dairy and sheep are of the main produce delivered.

At the heart of the Caledon Community are five proud institutions of Basic Education.    The Community of Middleton is home to The Glebe Primary School. The Communities of Vliew View and Bergsig are home to Swartberg Primary and Swartberg Secondary Schools respectively while at the foot of the Klein Swartberg the Schools of Overberg Primary and Overberg High are located. All five institutions boast rich heritage of culture and sporting and academic prestige.
